1. Adding Anchor Links with a Contents card

🛠️ How it works:

• Open the "add new card" menu at the first slot after your intro card (or the first slot if your edition has no intro).
• Select "Contents card" from the dropdown.
• This will generate your Content card — each card headline will be an Anchor Link show in the Contents card.

2. Customizing your Anchor Links/Table of Contents

🛠️ How it works:

• Edit an Anchor Link's label by clicking into the "Edit label" button and typing a new label. Once you edit it, the label stops following the card's headline — use the "Revert to headline" icon next to it to clear your edit and have it track the headline again.
• Hide a card from the Contents card using the "Hide from contents" control on that entry. Hidden entries stay visible to you in the editor, greyed out with their number replaced by a dash, so you can always find and restore them.
• Show a hidden card again using "Show in contents" on that entry.
• Let the index update itself — entries stay in sync automatically as you add, remove, reorder, or rename cards. You only need to touch the Contents card to override a label or hide a card.

• Send a test to see how it looks — this will help in seeing the recipient experience with Anchor Links.
• Readers see the Contents card under the header "In this edition," with one link per card they receive.
• Click on an Anchor Link and it will take you directly to the card in the edition

What is the Contents card?

It's an automatically generated table of contents you can add near the top of your edition. It lists one entry per card so readers can jump straight to the section they care about instead of scrolling.

Who can add a Contents card, and is it available on my plan?

Any editor with access to an edition can add one, as long as your organization is on the Advanced or Premier plan. There's no separate admin permission — if you can edit the edition, you can add the card. Contact your CSM if you're not sure whether your org is entitled.

Can I edit what an entry says?

Yes. Click into any entry and type new text. Editing it overrides the default — it stops following the card's headline unless you clear your edit using the reset icon.

Can I leave a card out of the index?

Yes — use the "Hide from contents" control on that entry. Hidden entries stay visible to you in the editor, greyed out with their number replaced by a dash, so you can restore them anytime, but they won't appear in what's sent.

Can I reorder the entries?

Not independently — entries always follow your edition's card order. To move an entry, move the underlying card.

Do jump links work in every email client?

No. Support varies by email app, and that's outside our control. We've specifically seen issues in Gmail's mobile app and Outlook on the web. Either way, the edition is fully readable — where a jump link doesn't work, it's just inert rather than broken.

Can I see who clicked an entry in the Contents card?

Not currently. An in-email jump link never reaches Axios HQ's servers, so there's no click event for us to record.

How does this work with a segmented edition?

Each recipient's Contents card only lists the cards they actually receive. As the editor, you'll see every card (including all segment variants) so you can manage the full index.
