Integrate your existing HRIS data into your Axios HQ audience
Axios HQ invites you to bring in your audience in a few different ways:
- manually add individuals one-by-one,
- upload a CSV of recipients’ emails and names,
- connect your existing directories,
- or integrate with your HRIS provider to bring in recipients.
⭐️ HRIS Sync requires an upgrade from the Essential and Advanced package.
Why it matters
- Setting up an HRIS sync allows you to sync your employee data and bring individuals as recipients into Axios HQ.
- As your employee data changes, you won’t have to worry about updating your audience to match in Axios HQ. Updates will sync automatically!
💡 HRIS Sync connections bring in your employees as recipients. This connection does not handle user logins.
- The users at your organization will use the SSO connection to log into the Axios HQ platform to plan, write, and send essential communications.
- The recipients of your series will be synced via the HRIS Sync connection; they can be added to a series audience to ensure they receive emails.

1. HRIS providers we support
We partner with Finch to facilitate the HRIS integration.
Finch supports most common HRIS providers, examples include Workday, UKG, BambooHR and ADP. You can review the list of providers here.
Each HRIS provider syncs in one of the following two ways:
- Automated Integration: An automated integration type syncs data every 24 hours. This sync also supports on-demand data syncs.
- Assisted Integration: An assisted integration type syncs data every 7 days. This sync takes up to two weeks to set up after the permissions have been granted.
When you're ready to connect your HRIS provider to HQ, you will follow instructions through the portal provided in the platform. Details for this workflow are found below.

Remember, HRIS Sync connections are made to bring individual recipients into HQ (not user logins).
2. Syncing your HRIS data
🛠️ How it works:
- Navigate to Settings > Integrations, then click Connect on the HRIS Sync integration.
- You will be taken to a setup portal provided by Finch.
- Review the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, then the Permissions, then select your HRIS provider from the list.
- Follow the instructions on your screen to set up the integration.
- Once completed, your recipients will be available in your Audience. To review them navigate to Audience > All recipients.
- Create Filtered Segments with the synced recipients, which you can utilize for your next Send.
💡 Only org Owners and Admins have access to the Integrations page.
If this view is not available to you, please request that an Owner or Admin in your organization adjust your permissions.
By default, Axios HQ will sync the below attributes for your recipients:

📚 Sending
Can I still send from HQ before setting up an HRIS sync?
Yes! You can still send from HQ before setting up your HRIS sync. You can manually add recipients by navigating to your series audience and either:
- Upload a CSV of multiple individuals by clicking on "Manage recipients" and selecting "Import CSV"
- Individually add new recipients by clicking on "Add individuals"
Can I use a CSV and my HRIS recipients?
Yes! Add individuals one-by-one or via CSV at any time. If a CSV is uploaded or deleted, contacts added via HRIS sync will not be affected. If a recipient is on a CSV and synced via HRIS sync with the same email address, they will not receive an edition twice.

Who can access my organization's synced HRIS data?
Only Owners, Admins, and Members with granted permission can access your synced HRIS data.
Will synced members (recipients) gain access to the platform?
No. Synced audience members (recipients) will not gain access to the platform. Access is only granted by inviting users to your organization and through our SSO integration.

How can I sync existing recipient groups instead of individual recipients?
Review our directory sync setup for different providers, compare different ways to sync with Azure AD/Entra ID, or set up an SFTP connection.
How often will syncs be performed?
- Automated Integrations sync every 24 hours.
- Assisted Integrations sync every 7 days.
How can I sync custom fields?
Certain HRIS providers allow us to sync custom fields. Please reach out to help@axioshq.com to find out more.
If a directory member is offboarded via the HRIS sync, is that member automatically disabled / removed from the audience?
Yes, and this recipient will be removed from all audiences across all series within your organization. However, the users themselves will not be removed from the platform.
- If a member of the HRIS system is also an HQ user, the connections must be viewed separately.
- User access will be revoked when a user is deprovisioned from the SAML app (ie: their account is deleted or marked inactive) but their username will still be visible as a collaborator; the user will simply no longer be able to login.
