1. Starting an edit on a sent edition
🛠️ How it works:
- Navigate to the "Sent" page in your Workspace and open the edition you want to fix.
- Click "Edit and resend" in the edition overview side panel, or in the sent edition's three-dot overflow menu.
- Click "Unschedule and edit" if a resend is already scheduled. A pop-up asks you to unschedule the resend before editing. The scheduled date carries over as a suggested send time when you review your resend.
- Start editing right away if no resend is scheduled. "Edit and resend" opens the editor directly.
- Click "Edit and resend" again to return to an edit you already started. It takes you straight back to the editor.
- Writers can click "Edit edition" to join an edit once a sender, admin, or owner has started it.
Only series senders and organization admins and owners can start an edit on a sent edition. Writers can collaborate once the edit is open. Sending permissions don't change.
2. Making your changes
🛠️ How it works:
- Update the subject line the same way you would on a draft.
- Edit card content to fix typos, swap links, or update dates and figures.
- Add, delete, or rearrange cards within the edition.
- Update segments, polls, and mail merge content as needed, within your existing permissions.
- Leave the editor at any time. Your edits stay saved and the edition stays in Sent. Nothing goes live until you resend.
Deleting a poll, or a card that contains a poll, stops the poll from accepting responses and removes it. Privacy and admin lock controls are hidden while editing, and you can't move cards or sections in from another edition or the series.
3. Reviewing and resending
🛠️ How it works:
- Click "Review and send" when your edits are ready.
- Click "Send a test" (optional) to preview the updated edition in your inbox without publishing your changes.
- Choose your audience. "Unread recipients" is preselected when available. Switch to "Manually add" to send to new recipients instead.
- Choose when to send. Send now or schedule a time.
- Adjust the sender name, send-from, and reply-to if needed, within your organization's sender controls.
- Leave "Show “Updated” label" on, or turn it off. It's on by default.
- Confirm your send. HQ sends or schedules the resend and exits edit mode.
"Unread recipients" is based on the edition's original audience. If you assign a new segment to a card while editing, only that segment's members who haven't opened the edition will receive the resend. To edit again after scheduling, unschedule the pending resend first. Learn more about resends in Sending your HQ series.
4. What changes after your resend
🛠️ How it works:
- Resend recipients get the corrected edition in their inbox.
- The web version updates at the same link once the resend goes out, so anyone who clicks "View online" sees the latest version.
- "Updated on [date]" appears at the bottom of the resent email and the web edition, if you left the label on.
- An "Edited" marker appears in HQ beside the edition title in your Sent list and planner, and on the send in send history. Only your team sees this marker.
- Analytics stay in one place. Each resend keeps its own send record, and edition-level analytics combine them as they always have.
Emails already delivered can't be changed. Editable Resends is not a recall. Readers who opened the original keep the original version in their inbox.
5. FAQs
What is Editable Resends?
Editable Resends lets you correct the subject line and content of a sent edition before you resend it. The resend and the web version both carry your corrections, and everything stays on the same edition.
Who can edit a sent edition?
Series senders and organization admins and owners can start an edit. Once an edit is open, writers on the series can join it with the "Edit edition" button.
Which plans include Editable Resends?
Editable Resends is available on all plans.
Can I change an email that was already delivered?
No. Emails already in an inbox stay as they were. Your edits reach readers through the resend and the updated web version.
Can I update the web version without resending?
No. You can start editing at any time and your edits stay saved, but they only go live when you resend the edition.
What happens to my scheduled resend when I start editing?
Starting an edit unschedules it. Your edits stay saved, but they won't reach anyone until you confirm a new send or schedule from "Review and send".
Can I edit more than once?
Yes. If a resend is already scheduled, unschedule it, make your changes, and review and send again.
Which version does "View online" show?
It shows the most recently sent version. While you're editing or waiting on a scheduled resend, it still shows the previous version, and it updates at the same link once the resend goes out.
What happens to a card I delete?
It's removed from the updated edition and the web version. Emails already delivered still include it, and its existing tracked links keep their click data.
What happens if I delete a poll while editing?
The poll stops accepting responses and is deleted. The editor warns you before you delete a poll, or a card that contains one, so you can confirm you meant to.
Can I hide the "Updated" label?
Yes. Turn off "Show “Updated” label" during review. Keep in mind that readers who saw the original won't see any sign that the edition changed.
Can I see the version each send delivered?
No. After an edition is edited, HQ shows only the most recent version. Contact help@axioshq.com if you need help with a previous version.
Does send history show who made each edit?
No. Send history shows who sent each resend, but individual edits aren't attributed, since several people may work on one edit.
Should I still duplicate an edition to fix a typo?
Use "Edit and resend" for corrections. It keeps everything on the same edition and web link. Duplicate the edition instead if you want separate analytics for the corrected version.
Can I resend to unread without making edits?
Yes, for instructions on how to enable a regular resend to unread, view our article here.
