Keeping your comms on track with Target date and Cadence

Set up a cadence or add a target date to plan your comms.

Target date allows you to better plan, track, and organize your communications by adding a target date to your edition draft. Cadence (formally known as Routines) automatically creates new editions on a recurring basis. 

Target date is a planning tool and will not automatically send communications.

1. Enable Cadence

🛠️ How it works:

  • Navigate to your Series settings, by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner. 
  • Click on Strategy then navigate to the Cadence section.
  • Set the target date by selecting the day and time you intend to send your communication.
  • 💡 If you "Save changes" at this step, new drafts will not be automatically created but any manually created drafts will have the target date that is set. 
  • To automatically create the edition before your target date, click the box "Create edition in advance."
  • Specify the number of days prior to the target date when you would like the draft to be generated.
  • Choose whether you want your draft to be generated from a blank edition, the most recently sent edition, or a template.
  • If you select "Last sent edition," you have the option to duplicate the assignments from the 
  • If you select a template, choose the template you would like to use. 
  • Once completed, click "Save changes" in the top right corner. 

2. Add or edit target date via list view

  • Navigate to your Drafts page by clicking "Drafts" from the toggle.
  • Click on "Add target date" in the Status column and select your target date. 
  • If your edition already has a target date but you need to edit it, click on the date in the Status column to expose the date picker and select your new target date.

3. Add or edit target date via series planner view

  • Navigate to your Drafts page by clicking "Drafts" from the toggle.
  • Click on "Add target date" at the top of your edition column and select your target date. 
  • If your edition already has a target date but you need to edit it, click on the date at the top of your edition column to expose the date picker and select your new target date.

4. Managing target send date notifications

🛠️ How it works: 

  • Navigate to your Series settings, by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner. 
  • Click on Strategy then navigate to the Reminders section.
  • Check the box to enable email notifications for upcoming and overdue sends.
  • You can specify the number of days in advance of the target date that you wish to receive a reminder.
  • Overdue email notifications will send after 24 hours of your target date and time. 
  • Uncheck the box to disable email notifications. 

5. FAQs

How will my editions be sorted in the workspace?

All Editions will be sorted in the following order:

  • Editions scheduled to automatically send
  • Editions with a target send date
  • Editions with no target send date (no target)

How do I schedule send?

Same as you do now – click “Schedule send” in the editor, pick the date (the auto send toggle will be automatically toggled on), and click “Schedule send.”

Who can edit the target send date or turn on automatic send? 

Any collaborators with send permission can change the send date and toggle automatic sends on. Collaborators with writer permission can change the send date if automatic send is not enabled. Once automatic send is enabled, writers can no longer change the send date.

How do I turn off Cadence?

To disable Cadence, simply click on the scheduled day to remove the highlight and then save your changes.
